Name: Leitmotif Age: 5 Years Breed: American Saddlebred Gender: Stallion Region: Amun
Appearance: Leitmotif is a fine stallion, if not very tall at 15.3 hands. Not overly bulky or muscular, he instead takes pride in his fine bone structure, including his well-defined withers, deep, sloping shoulders and strong, level back. His powerful legs offer him a flashy, high-stepping movement, so that he always looks rather like he’s showing off, even if he intends no such thing. His head is intricately wrought, appearing almost delicate, and carries to large horns. These horns are rather unusual in that they start behind his ears and loop down behind his jaw before jutting forward and coming to points just behind the end of his muzzle. His mane and tail are both unusually short, the former forming little more than a thick crest of stiff upright hairs and the latter being little more than a fluffy stub, as if he had once had a normal tail but this had been docked. His base colouration is white, a pure snowy white unmarked by flecks of grey or other discolourations. His only markings are in a bright golden colour, the same shade as his eyes. They start by covering his ears and then form parallel lines down the sides of his neck and body. Evenly spaced rings of the same colour appear on his neck, but on his torso these become more widely-space bands over his back, leaving his belly clear. His mane and tail are also golden.
Personality: A sweet-natured and friendly horse, Leitmotif is about as peaceful as a stallion can be. He has a down-to-earth and often rather blunt attitude to life, always trying to see things as they are rather than how he wants them to be. He nevertheless manages to maintain a healthy wit, with a love of clever wordplay and teasing. Despite this, he gives off a certain warmth and gentleness that is missing from a lot of males, and this tends to inspire a feeling of trust in those around him, especially mares. He’s very likeable, with his friendly, outgoing ways, and it can be difficult for others to take exception to him. Along with all that niceness, though, there is a hint of something that just might be vanity, though it expresses itself in ways that could be far worse. He likes to think of himself as a knight in shining armour, there to defend the defenceless, and to his credit, he does his best to live up to it. If he spots another equine in danger, he will do his best to help them out. Perhaps unusually, Leit does not dislike the company of other stallions. Unfortunately they often don’t want him around, seeing him as a threat despite the fact that he rarely has any intention of taking their land or their mares. Indeed, Leit has a healthy respect for the fairer sex and treats them almost as equals; he abhors the practice of forcing mares to join this herd or that herd, and his opinion of those who force them to breed is even lower. He’s something of a pacifist at heart though, and though he will fight to protect his herd, he prefers not to have to. Truth be told, the thought of fighting scares him.
Power: Can turn utterly invisible, allowing him to hide should he need to. When invisible his scent is also masked, though not completely, and any noise he makes can still be heard.
History: Leitmotif was born into a large herd that had once belonged to a powerful but rather cruel stallion in the realm of Osiris. By the time Leitmotif was born, however, that stallion was dead, apparently by a nasty tumble into a ravine. One of the mares, Leitmotif’s grandmother, declared then and there that she would never again be ruled by a stallion, and neither would any mare that followed her. Of course, a group of mares couldn’t keep a land on their own, and so they travelled as a large group of rogues. Leit’s early life was therefore spent almost entirely on the move, but he was happy nonetheless. He played with the other foals and was generally a good, sweet young colt. His mother did her best to instil a goodness in him that had been absent in his father, and luckily, he responded. He was also taught to treat those who were weaker than him with respect. He never wanted to leave the rogue herd, but when he started to show signs of adulthood, his grandmother insisted; she didn’t want any grown stallions threatening to take over. Thus Leitmotif became a loner. The life didn’t suit him, for he had never been without company before and he quickly became very lonely. He went first to the lands Amun, in search of a new way of life, and he continues to search to this day.
