Picture by Losmios at Deviantart.Theme Song: "Iridescent", By: Linkin ParkYou were standing in the wake of devastationName: Shinjiru And you were waiting on the edge of the unknownAge: 6 years old And with the cataclysm raining downBreed: Friesian Insides crying "Save me now"Gender: Mare You were there, impossibly aloneRegion: Osiris Do you feel cold and lost in desperation?Appearance: With a dark ebony coat of the deepest black, Shinjiru is the raven in the night. The coat is sleek and seems to shine in the slightest light. Her eyes are complete darkness, no color exists within. They are simply black, like the rest of her body. The head is narrow and smooth, smaller than average to match her overall smaller body. The mane and tail are full and feathery light; flowing and rippling at the touch of the lightest breeze. With her head held high, her neck arched gracefully in a regal style, her prancing movements; she is the princess of the night. You build up hope, but failure’s all you’ve knownWith a well-muscled chest to support the massive wings which sprout from either shoulder, she radiates a sense of serenity. Lithe and graceful, her every movement reflects the freedom of the skies which is her gift. Her hooves are light to increase her speed in the air, she can walk without making a sound. Her skin is smooth and unbroken, no scars ravage her almost frail-looking frame. The hindquarters are compact and muscular, built for both hard and soft impacts on the ground below after a flight. The feather-light tail is well kept and naturally never tangles, reaching down to hang by her fetlocks. The jet black feathers of her wings are soft and fluted, just like an owl. With fluffy down feathers, she is entirely silent in the air. The feather fingers are gently curved until they taper slight at the tips, allowing for swift and graceful changes in direction. She takes hours out of her day to groom and smooth out every single feather within the massive appendages, to maintain her silence in the night sky. The wings extend to a complete span of 20 feet,a great contrast to her 6.5 feet in height from her hooves to her back. Remember all the sadness and frustrationPersonality: Swift and silent, graceful and dangerous. The serpent beneath the beautiful lily leaf. She lives up to her self-imposed title of "Princess of the Night". When the sun sinks beyond the horizon, and the moon and stars show their faces; that is the moment when Shinjiru is most often seen flying. With moonlight glittering on her well-kept coat, she is a figure of serene grace. The smooth and free movements which lead to her nighttime ballet are quite something to witness. The wings spread out to their full span, she casts a large shadow on the ground below; silhouetted against the starry heavens above. The mane and tail billow out around her slender frame in the winds of flight. With a past in which loneliness had overshadowed her years from newborn foal to adult; she takes great comfort in the freedom of the skies. And let it go. Let it goShinjiru is a bit of a headstrong mare, she can seem almost arrogant at times. She tends to hide her gentler feelings under a "macho" cover. Her feelings are something she keeps under lock and key, rarely sharing them with others. She has difficulty trusting others, and it takes time for her to warm up to other horses. If someone prods at a rather touchy subject, she usually becomes defiant and will likely utter a rude comment without realizing it. She is a bit of a loner, normally sticking close to the few she feels she can call her "friends". But beneath her rough outer display, she is gentle-hearted and compassionate; though she'd never admit it to anyone's face. Loyal and kind, she loves to help others; while acting as if she could care less. She loves to wander, and waste spare time by sitting on a hill somewhere; gazing up into the sky. She has an almost regal sense about her, a serene grace and pride. She holds her head and tail high, and has a certain spring in her step that results from her almost boundless energy. And in a burst of light that blinded every angelShe loves the freedom which flight presents to her. The feeling of wind tugging at her tail and mane, it is something she cherishes above all. She loves to spend time flying, and is normally a bit more friendly after a good long flight. If she could, she would have been content to always be in the air; but of course... She must allow her body time to recover and rest. When she's in the air, she flies with such grace that it appears almost as a ballet; and image made more beautiful by her flowing mane, tail, and ankle flares. With her large wings, fairly light body, and well-muscled shoulders; she is able to carry out some of the most complicated maneuvers in the air. Spirals and flips, sudden swerves and dives which bring her dangerously close to the earth; before pulling up to skim just above the ground's surface. In the air, her speed is astonishing; and she can easily outstrip a horse at full gallop on the ground below. As if the sky had blown the heavens into starsBut for all her grace in the air; she is downright clumsy on the ground. Her wings are large and cumbersome, built for long hours of flight. She often trips over her own wings, and then becomes huffy and irritable if she is seen by another in such humiliation. While she keeps them folded neatly as often as possible, she is forgetful; and the wings usually droop until she steps on one. On land, merely her walking around can turn out to be quite amusing. The one thing she can't stand, is water. Yes, she drinks it and enjoys the feeling of refreshment it brings. Her wings are fluffy and not water resistance. If they get wet, they absorb the moisture almost at once; and become heavy and uncomfortable. When her wings are wet, she can't get off the ground due to the extra weight; and can do nothing but sit around until they dry. Being naturally clumsy, combined with an inability to even lift her wings; she becomes downright unpleasant due to her lack of flight freedom. These moments are not the best times to try socializing with her, unless you are one of her good friends. You felt the gravity of tempered gracePower: Flight; along with astonishing speed and ability when in the air. Falling into empty spaceHistory: Shinjiru was an outcast from birth. With a father who possessed the amazing power of flame control, she was expected to be just like him. Her mother had been winged, and had a total of 4 foals with her father. Out of the four, she had been the only one with wings. At birth, she had been clumsy and was always getting under everyone else's hooves. Despite her mother;s best efforts, she hadn't learned to fly until she was nearly 3 years old. The reason was simply her wing size. Learning to control where those massive appendages went had been difficult, and she'd suffered through constant bruising and broken feathers. Whenever she was lounging around or trying to graze, others horses always mistakenly stepped on the sensitive appendages; as they were usually resting on the ground. In the beginning, the other horses had seemed apologetic after the unfortunate occasions of treading on her; but they'd later started to suspect she stuck them out on purpose to trip them, as they constantly under hooves. As she was shunned and excluded from herd activities "for her own good", she began to grow cold and uncertain. No one there to catch you in their armsHer mother did all she could to comfort her confused and constantly hurting child, but it was to little avail. Her father had always been disappointed at her lack of flames. He had been the lead stallion of the herd, and she was expected to uphold dreadfully high standard which her siblings had no trouble with. As the years progressed, his disappointment in his winged daughter had no longer been hidden from her. She was just the unusually small "always a foal" that lurked at the far edges of the herd who somehow always happened to be in everyone's way. When the herd went on group gallops, a tradition to run with the wind as a family, she'd always been left behind because of her clumsiness on land. Her mother had normal sized wings, so she'd had no trouble keeping up; though she was often in the air above the moving herd. At first she'd stayed behind to help her daughter along. But as her inability to learn how to use her wings for flight became clear as she grew older, the mare had seemed to give up on her daughter; just like her mate had done. Do you feel cold and lost in desperation?Shinjiru was never able to keep up. Her seclusion made her into the rough horse she is now, the one not to trust easily. Feelings are something she hides from, and she hides them from others as well. She hardened herself toward feelings of sadness and loneliness in her herd. But as she approached the age of three, she became determined to show them that she was worth something. When the herd was grazing or doing other business, she went off on her own to learn how to fly. It was a long and difficult trial, but after a few months of working alone; she started to get the hang of handling her over-sized appendages. When she finally was given an opportunity to show off her newly gained skill, the herd had indeed been impressed; and grown more friendly to her. But she was still that clumsy mare on land, and the friendliness didn't last. Always in someone's way, or always tripping over herself; she was quickly dubbed as the herd's laughing stock. You build up hope, but failure’s all you’ve knownAs her third birthday came and went, she finally made up her mind to leave them; but was afraid of abandoning the only "family" she had. After a particularly humiliating tumble down a large hill, she'd finally turned on her father; and started to confront him about why he treated her the way he did. All the pent up rage, loneliness, and hate had reached its limit. The argument had been heated and lengthy, the rest of the herd had gathered to listen with interest. The lead stallion didn't take kindly to the way his daughter was speaking to him, and the argument became a stream of violent verbal abuse. The others had begun to inch away from the confrontation, afraid of what such disrespect might drive their leader to do. Finally, her father's eyes had lit up with uncontrollable rage; and he'd proceed toward her to carry out some sort of punishment for her downright disrespect and rudeness. But she gave him no chance. The mare had risen into the sky in a cloud of feathers, and kicked outward toward his face. Her hoof connected, and he'd stumbled back in shock as pain blossomed in his forehead; the remaining witnesses had drawn in breaths of horror at the mare's actions. The lead stallion had then leaped forward, his fiery rage exploding out in a physical fire as his mane and tail had burst into flames. Remember all the sadness and frustrationShinjiru did the wise thing, and turned tail and fled. Since that day, she has been traveling alone; slowly honing her abilities in the air. Her one wish is to find a permanent home, a herd that she can actually call "family". But That wish is never made clear; as she hates to admit to the "weakness" of longing for other horses' company. And let it go. Let it go...
