Name: Lupine Age: 4 Breed: Icelandic horse Gender: Mare Region: World of Wandering
Appearance: Short, stocky and tough like all Icelandic's. Lupine also has the typical abundant coat of the breed, which is palomino in color. She has large black dapples sprinkled on her right haunch and dark skin around her large black eyes. Unlike most palominos, her mane and tail are a deep black, with silver streaks.
In her wolf form (see "Power") Lupine is a larger than average canine, though not as large as she is when in her normal equine form. Her fur is a beige base with smoky patches of black and silver. She gains long, gleaming fangs and claws.
Personality: Lupine tends to be aloof and independent, preferring her own company to that of others; though she does enjoy spending time with creatures of other species (such as wolves, who do not attack her no matter which form she is in; they sense her wolf blood). She finds them less complicated and more accepting than other equines. She does not appreciate when stallions flirt with her in the conventional way; if a man wants to win her heart he must be slow and gentle, yet mentally sharp and persistent. Needless to say Lupine has high standards. She is not unkind, however, and if she comes across someone in the need of help she will be there, albeit with a sigh of exasperation. Power: Lycanthrope; she can take on the form of a wolf at will.
History: Lupine had a loving but unconventional upbringing. Her biological equine parents were kind, if too young and inept to properly raise a foal (they were both barely four). It was pretty much just her and her parents for the first six months of her life, except for the occasional friendly herd they would run into and travel with for awhile. Neither of Lupine's parents had powers, and when, at six months of age, Lupine's revealed itself, he parents were perplexed and afraid. They didn't recognize it as a gift, but as some kind of strange and unfortunate biological defect. Well intentioned but young and ignorant, they kissed her goodbye and left her within smelling distance of a nearby wolf pack, assuming that she was meant to live her life canine, not equine, and there had just been some kind of strange cosmic error that caused Lupine (then called Lily, she didn't change her name until later) to be born to them. The pack was at first giddy with their good luck - wow, a juicy foal just waiting for their maws! - and then perplexed - "Hey, she don't smell like any horse I ever seen...she smells like us!". Finally, a trembling Lupine ("Lily", but not for much longer) did what she always did when she was afraid (which had been pretty much never until now)-she changed to her wolf form. Stunned, the wolves led the terrified foal/pup to their pack elder, who took one look at her and exclaimed with unusual vitality and enthusiasm, "Lycanthrope!" From that day until Lupine's second birthday (on which she gained this new name) the wolves raised her as their own. She spent most of her time in her wolf form but sometimes in her sleep she would unconsciously shift back into equine, giving her den mates quite the shock upon awakening. When Lupine turned two, she decided two things: one, that Lily was not a proper name for her and she should be called Lupine; and two, though she loved her pack she did not belong there - not really. She was not truly a wolf, but a horse - which had become clear from her ineptitude at hunting and refusal to eat meat. So she set out on her own, vowing to stay true to herself and never let anyone - horse or wolf - change what she was: werewolf.
