UPDATES
Have you roamed various equine roleplaying sites to find that they all have the same plotline? All of the territories seem to be ruled by the same types of leaders, and the story always becomes a grand battle between good and evil? Do you have an idea that you would like to get out of your head, but never had the freedom to put it down on paper? Here, at Temples of Abydos, you have the power to create. This is an open-ended, no canon-based RPG that welcomes individuals from every background and with any skill-set imaginable. If you have an idea, but have struggled to find a safe haven for your muse, this is the place for you. I welcome you and hope you enjoy your stay here in the isle where all equines are deities, and the power is endless.

December 20, 2011: Putting together the last odds and ends for the site's designs and we'll be open for business! I will be looking for staff members once the member count reaches around 10, but until then, territories are open for claiming, and feel free to ask any questions you may have!
BOOKS Here are written the laws and history of the Temples of Abydos. To become immersed in this mythical land's stories, you must read these guidelines prior to creating your character.
CHARACTER CREATION (3 sub-boards) This is where figments of your imagination can finally come to life. Magnificent creatures with fearsome powers become a part of the story here. Please follow the character template to join your equines, and walk into the realms of either Amun or Osiris.
CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT (1 sub-board) This is where you may piece together different puzzles of your stories. Have a plot-line you want to embellish? Want to establish relationships with your characters? Everything you could need to develop your equines further can be discussed here.
CIRCLE OF LEADERS This is a board reserved for the website's staff members to discuss important matters/ideas for Temples of Abydos.

Purgatory
ABYDOS RUINS Temples from generations past have existed here since any recorded history can account for. Giant marble pillars lie in piles like scattered ribs from a carcass. Although only rubble remains, however, these grounds still remain a respected place of neutrality. Opposing sides do not war or quarrel here, under penalty of both laws.
GREAT BASIN Nearby the ancient ruins lies an enormous bay that eventually spills into the great oceans. Here, the water never runs dry or freezes over, so it has become a safe haven for creatures of all kinds year-round. No one dares to settle disputes along its shores for fear that any blood spilled in these waters will end its never-ending supply.

ALTER OF THANATOS Though not literally an alter, this is a natural pit of sand surrounded by small, rocky hillsides on three sides. Located between the Territories of Amun and Osiris, this is the designated location for settling disputes amongst each other from both worlds. Here, stallions can war over land or make an attempt to steal a mare. All leaders must be wary of the challengers here.
MEADOWS OF RA Once you have crossed into the great expanse of Amun, the first land you come across is a massive meadow, dappled with flowers of every color imaginable. There is a permanent dew on the grasses here which catch the sun's rays and reflects them to make the entire area glitter like crystals. This land itself is not claimable, but it is a common ground for mares without homes to seek out a harem.
ZARYR RIVERS Branching from the Great Basin is a group of winding rivers. Marshes, plains, small woods, and a variety of other habitats all act as miniature islands between the running waters. Though in summer, these lands may appear an oasis, do not be fooled. During the rainy seasons, the lands flood, and during the winters, the frozen waters are treacherous to cross.
This region is led by Ember.

HATHOR CLIFFTOPS Instead of mountains, Amun's regions have a number of sheer cliffs that stand over a great expanse of ocean. Trees stand almost to the very edge, and rocky hills and pillars scatter the rest of the open land. Wind here is constant, so it is not uncommon for the equines that live here to claim that the cliffs themselves can sing.
HORAX SHORES Beyond the cliffs, and coming up to the ridges of the Maraji Mountains, are the habitable shores of the Horax Oceans. Marches and sand dunes collide here to make a land rich with many creatures, including the equines that live here. These shores are fairly warm year-round due to protection from high winds that the mountains offer them.
HILLS OF NYX When you first catch a glimpse of the territories of Osiris, the first landmarks that catch your eye are a number of rolling hills that melt into a horizon of tall, dark trees. These hills offer almost no shade, but here, the sunlight barely reaches the ground for over a small number of hours each day. The Hills of Nyx nearly look blue in this dim lighting. These hills are not claimable, but this is the common ground for the mares of Osiris without homes to seek out a harem.
SEKHMET GROVES Closest to the Hills of Nyx lies a small forest dominated with small, dark pines. There are small, scattered meadows throughout these woods, along with a rocky stream that floods and freezes easily. The equines here are usually nocturnal, or roam away from home during daylight hours.
KA'AR DESERT In yet another direction lies a vast desert by the name of Ka'ar. Only a small portion of this barren wasteland is habitable, and in this region lies scattered, flowering cacti and a great number of large boulders. From one enormous boulder, a large cave has been carved for the equines to seek shelter from the intense heat during the day.
MARAJI MOUNTAINS On the farthest reaches of Osiris' lands there is a strip of mountainous ridges that climb towards the skies. Though they stand just tall enough to have snow dust their caps, these mountains are treacherous and nearly impossible to pass through during the winter months. The equines that live here are the hardiest of foot and because of their seclusion, are often the most feared.
DISCUSSION BOARD (1 sub-board) Here is where OOC discussion of any sort can occur. If you have a question, if you're going to be away for a while, or if you just want to play an OOC game, that can all be done here.
ARCHIVES Where completed or inactive threads are locked and placed for safe keeping. Should a thread of yours be placed in here for inactivity and you would like to revive it, please send a PM to Anubis or a staff member to have it reactivated.
ARTISTS' CORNER This board is reserved for artworks of all kind that members would like to put up. This does not have to be artwork for the website only. Testing character tables, poetry, photoshop, or sketches are just a few of the many items that can be posted here.

SEASON: Early Winter
New winter winds are coming from the East, bringing with it little flurries of the year's first snow. The mornings are often snow-dusted, and the trees are turning into crystal ice statues. The gray clouds off in the distance tell of a strong blizzard coming in the future.
